Mississippi River Bridge at Lansing
Spanning over 1,700 feet, the Mississippi River Bridge connects Iowa Highway 9 in Lansing, Iowa, to Wisconsin Highway 82 in rural Crawford County, Wisconsin. Known as the Black Hawk Bridge, this iconic structure has been a regional landmark since 1931, despite a closure from 1945 to 1957 due to ice dam damage. Over time, wear and tear, along with evolving vehicle sizes and traffic patterns, led the Iowa and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation to decide on constructing a new bridge. The new bridge will mimic the original Black Hawk Bridge to preserve its iconic status.
Axios Civil Solutions, in partnership with Nucor Skyline, supplied the permanent steel casings for the deep foundations of the new bridge. Our responsibilities included revising shop drawings and collaborating with the installation contractor to modify the casings based on the conditions encountered during construction.
